Posing maths problems

 Kia ora

We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number

(a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

Jack had $95 and Joe had $125 and kale had $262. How many do they have altogether.?

$95 + $125 =$220

$220 + $265 =$482

Maths

This week we made a measuring slide show and on the slide show we recorded the measurements of the heads of the people in our group. First we estimated their head size by looking at their head. Next we put a piece of wool around their head and cut the wool. Then we estimated the wool size. Finally we measured the wool. I found if fun finding out about the size of my head. I found it hard cutting the wool in the right place.

Maths

 Kia Ora,

The other day in Team Moana we were learning on how tectonics plates work. We used ice cream wafers to show the mountains forming. Then, we used homemade tomato sauce. we punched a hole in half of the wafer. The learning behind the  task was to learn how mountains form using tectonic plates. I thought it was fun. meshiring....... I though it was hard.bloging.......

lahar/Science

Today we built Mt Ruapehu in the sandpit. We also made the Whangaehu River valley, the plain below the mountain and the railway bridge at Tangiwai. We wanted to learn how the lahar destroyed the bridge in 1953 causing the Tangiwai Disaster. Kora and Ariana poured lots of water into the crater we had made on top of our mountain. It whoosed down the side of the mountain and into the river valley. The bridge collapsed and bits of our train fell into the river. After that, we watched a short video about what do do if you are on Mt Ruapehu when the lahar siren sounds.  Now I know how to keep safe from a lahar if one happens when I am on a mountain.  Here is my Hazard Notice with the most important information

DNA monster

Today we learned about the molecule DNA, Deoxyribonucleic Acid, our unique recipe that makes us look like we do!

We used our knowledge of DNA and recessive and dominant traits to create our own unique DNA monsters.

Here is my DNA table of traits and a picture of my DNA monster.

What I like best about my monster is the warm colours.

How to make a bed

Today for writing I  chose to write a procedure on how to make my bed. I have been learning about procedural writing as part of my reading as well. I found drawing the picture of my bed easy and fun. I found remembering to use my command verbs and adjectives hard.
Here is my procedure:

How to make my bed:

Equipment: Bed
                 Duvet
                 Pillows
                 Extra blanket
                 Sheet

Step 1: Pull everything off the bed apart from sheet
Step 2: Tighten the sheet by tucking it under mattress
Step 3: Put duvet on top of sheet, evenly, leaving a gap at the top
Step 4: Put pillows in the gap you left
Step 5: Fold spare blanket in half and then put on end of bed

Conclusion: Put pajamas under pillow and arrange any teddies on bed neatly

Show not tell

Today for writing I did a show not tell story describing one of my favourite places. I tried not to describe anything I could see just what I felt, heard and smelt.
Can you guess where I am?

My mystery place

I go to my favourite place. I think eel’s are splashing,
I sort of hear sparrows squawking like pelicans.
I hear water banging together. It smells fishy.
I feel squishy mud beneath my feet.
It is noisy here like a hippopotamus watering hole.
I feel sharp things on my feet like glass.
Where could I be?

Kyles ANZAC biscuits

Today for my play, make, create activity.I watched a story on youtube called ANZAC biscuits. I then collected all the ingredients for ANZAC biscuits and started baking! After, I made a recipe of my ANZAC biscuits. Below is my recipe. I liked the baking part of this activity. I found writing the recipe hard and trying to remember the spelling.

My ultimate shopping list

Here is my writing for today about my ultimate shopping that I wrote out on a poster and then I wrote about why I chose these items. I found it easy to think of the food I really like and want. I found it hard though to explain why I wanted them.

Today I wrote down my dream shopping list. There are 9 items, here is my list:
I chose these items because they are yummy. I could make bacon and egg’s for breakfast. I could make marlin dip out of the marlin. I would eat all the treats all the time.

Time schedule

Today for maths we had to use google draw to write up our daily schedule. I learnt about how to create a table in google draw. I liked choosing and inserting the photos that matched the description. I found remembering what time I do things in the day difficult.

Caramel Cake

Today instead of making ANZAC biscuits with Mrs A. I made my Dads birthday cake. His favourite is caramel. I also combined this with my writing today and wrote out the recipe. I liked the baking of the cake, getting the cake out of the oven was hard though because it was hot .

Here is the finished cake:
